A brand new year, how refreshing! I am so looking forward to what this new year holds for Atèlette as I am gaining more confidence in my design abilities and also designing more intentionally. When I first began, I felt like my process was very willy-nilly. I was sketching and dreaming up clothing but honestly, none of it really went together. Moving forward, I am being a lot more mindful of how the pieces connect and tell a story. While I won’t be doing seasonal collections, every small batch of garments I work on, every short chapter, will feel cohesive (well that’s the goal anyway), and hopefully will thread back to a previous chapter and perhaps hint at what’s ahead.
I doubt I will name these short chapters, but perhaps I may change my mind in the future. The names of a few of these pieces were inspired by Jane Austen’s novels, which if you are a fan of the 18th century British novelist, you will recognize. Below are my original sketches for the Pemberley Dress, Simone Camisole, Parker Skirt, Dashwood Dress, and the Jane Set and then the proto samples of each one.
